Forgotten Again
Today on Foxsports.com, baseball experts weighed in on the greatest living pitcher. Now, no-one is even coming close to considering Mussina for that title, nor should they. He’s behind lots of pitchers in that cateogry.
However, the one thing that will not stand is incorrect factual information. In the article, Joe DelGrippo writes that Bob Feller is the greatest living pitcher–not a poor choice by any means. However, one of his stated reasons is:
“Feller’s 162-game average of 17-9 is bettered among living pitchers only by Roger Clemens’ 17-9″
First of all, Pedro Martinez and Whitey Ford have a 162 game average of 17-7, so it’s difficult to see where DelGrippo is going with that line of thought. Randy Johnson is also at 17-9. But secondly, 17-9 is the 162 game average of Mike Mussina as well!
This kind of shoddy research is frustrating from a journalistic point of view, but it’s sad to once again see Mike Mussina forgotten among baseball minds. Well, we’ve got you covered here Mike.
